Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College Case To Be Re-Investigated: Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College case to be re-investigated, High Court directs CBI

New Delhi. There will be a re-investigation in the case of rape and murder of a resident trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. Calcutta High Court has given this order while hearing the petition filed by the victim’s family. The court has directed to constitute a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Joint Director (Eastern Zone) of CBI and has sought the investigation report by June 25. In fact, the victim’s family alleges that the evidence was tampered with after the incident and due to this the case could not be investigated impartially.

On the appeal of the victim’s family, the court has directed the CBI to investigate afresh the entire incident from the victim’s dinner to her last rites on the night of the incident. The court made it clear that the SIT has to investigate whether there was really an attempt to influence the investigation by tampering with the evidence. The court said that this case is not limited to just one crime, but it also involves the question of transparency of the justice process and public trust.
