New Delhi. A tragic accident has taken place in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. A massive fire broke out in a restaurant located in Hauz Rani area and so far 21 people have died in this incident, while many others are said to be injured. Many foreign nationals are said to be among those who died. Some people jumped from the building to save their lives. The cause of the fire is not known at present. The fire department was informed about the fire around 9 am. Immediately the fire brigade team reached the spot and started the work of extinguishing the fire and evacuating the people trapped in the building.

After several hours of hard work the fire has been brought under control but the rescue operation is still going on. So far 37 people have been evacuated from the building. Those who are injured have been sent to the hospital. After the fire incident, local people put mattresses on the road and many people jumped from the building. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property in the massive fire in Malviya Nagar and my deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Delhi government is keeping a close watch on the situation. All necessary medical assistance and support is being provided to the affected families. In this hour of grief, Delhi Government stands strongly with the affected families. We are committed to providing all possible assistance to all those affected by this tragedy.

DDMA South SDM Jitendra Kumar said that we have come to know that a restaurant was running on the ground floor of this building. The cause of the fire has not been known yet. The reasons for the incident are being investigated. Information has been sought from MCD as to how many licenses for running such hotels and restaurants have been issued in residential areas. A routine investigation of all these will be done so that no such incident happens in future. Efforts are also being made to find out the reasons for this incident.
