Double Blow For Mamata Banerjee: Jyotipriya Mallik resigns from all TMC posts, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb also resigns
New Delhi. Former Chief Minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee has received a double shock today. Former minister Jyotipriya Mallik, considered a very trusted aide of Mamata, has resigned from all posts of Trinamool Congress. Citing his poor health, he has expressed his inability to discharge the responsibilities of the party properly. On the other hand, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb has also resigned from his post. After sending his resignation to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Deb returned the government vehicle and his security.

Jyotipriya Mallik has written in her resignation letter that my blood sugar level has increased abnormally which has reached above 350. Due to increasing sugar levels and kidney related problems, doctors have advised rest. That’s why I am leaving all party posts. Mallik has resigned at a time when Mamata Banerjee had recently included him in the TMC Working Committee. However, even before this, many big leaders of TMC have resigned from the post and party.

Jyotipriya Mallik is named among the most powerful leaders of TMC in North 24 Parganas district. He has been a five-time MLA and has also been the Food and Supplies Minister of Bengal in Mamata Banerjee’s government from 2011 to 2021. However, Mallik lost in the assembly elections held this year. BJP’s Devdas Mandal had defeated Mallik by more than 31 thousand votes from Howrah seat, considered his stronghold. Mallik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in October 2023 in the ration distribution scam. After being in jail for 15 months, he was released from jail in January 2025 after getting bail.
