Many Killed In Jammu-Kashmir: Many people died in Poonch of Jammu and Kashmir due to sudden floods and landslides, people are also missing, Amit Shah took stock of the situation for relief.


Jammu. Heavy rains have created havoc at many places in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. A large number of people have lost their lives due to flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Surankot here has suffered the most damage. At least 10 people have lost their lives in Poonch district due to flash floods and landslides. Of these, 9 died in Surankot. Six people from a family are also among the dead. Whereas, many are reported missing. Due to this, there is a possibility of increase in the death toll. Many houses have also been damaged due to landslides.

Due to heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir, low lying areas are filled with water. The administration along with NDRF and SDRF are carrying out rescue and relief work in the affected areas. Boats and helicopters are also being used for relief operations. Home Minister Amit Shah took stock of the situation by talking to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah over phone. Amit Shah has also assured all possible help to Jammu and Kashmir from the Central Government. Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir has received more than 77 mm of rain. The situation has worsened due to cloud bursts at many places.

At the same time, in the neighboring state of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, due to heavy rains, mountains have collapsed at many places. Due to which the roads have been damaged. Here too, the work of providing relief to the people in the affected areas is going on at a fast pace. The Meteorological Department has alerted that there may be heavy to very heavy rain in the hilly areas including Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh for the next few days. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for flash floods and landslides. This disaster has occurred in the hilly states due to the re-activation of monsoon. Even before this, every year during the rainy season, major disasters have occurred in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Wayanad of Kerala.
