107, 120: Tilak Varma completes two consecutive hundreds in T20I series against South Africa
Tilak Varma hit a hundred in the fourth and final T20I of the series against South Africa. He became the second Indian batter after Sanju Samson to record this feat in the shortest format of the game. In the third match, the left-handed batter amassed an unbeaten 107 runs off 56 deliveries, including eight fours and seven sixes.
He accumulated an unbeaten 120 runs off 47 balls, with the help of ten sixes and seven fours in the last contest. Tilak shared an unbroken partnership of 210 runs at a strike rate of 226 with Sanju Samson.
They hit 17 sixes and 13 fours against the Proteas bowlers. Samson’s 56-ball 109 took the team’s total to 283/1 in 20 overs. The right-handed batter smashed nine sixes and six fours.
Tilak was recalled to the Indian team after Shivam Dube was injured. He urged captain Suryakumar Yadav to promote him in the batting order and the rest his history. The 22-year-old was also marred by injuries in the past but it seems he has left all the worries behind.
Tilak was retained by Mumbai Indians for the Indian Premier League 2025. He will get INR 8 crore for his services.
