'His price is not Rs 10 crore', why did Gujarat Titans not buy Mohammed Shami? Ashish Nehra revealed

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has opened up about not retaining star Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami in the IPL Mega Auction 2025. Gujarat has made a good team for IPL 2025 but they could not buy back their veteran fast bowler Shami.

Shami was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the mega auction for Rs 10 crore. Gujarat Titans had the option to give Shami the right to match, but they refused to use this card. Now Nehra has broken his silence on not buying Shami and revealed that Shami was part of their retention plans, but they had already retained many key players.

When it came to using the Right to Match for Shami, the management felt that Rs 10 crore was a bit much for Shami and hence GT could not bring the fast bowler into its team. Former Indian fast bowler Nehra said, “Whatever he has done for GT and India, I mean he was also a part of our retention (plans). But again, you see retention is one such thing. “

Speaking further, Nehra told Geo Cinema, “Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudarshan. Every team has a lot of options. Then we also had RTM, maybe we can use RTM (in the auction). Could have taken him but the kind of price he went for will always be memorable for us. No matter what your strategy is, when it comes to the open auction, your strategy is successful every time. No Definitely, what Mohammed Shami has done for GT and those three years will always be remembered.”
