Mountain of sorrows fell on Sri Lankan cricketer Samaraweera, Australia imposed another 10 year ban
Bad times are not stopping for former Sri Lankan cricketer Dalip Samaraweera. Now another bad news has come for them. Cricket Australia has banned this Lankan cricketer for another ten years. Cricket Australia (CA)'s Conduct Commission has made a decision regarding a further allegation of inappropriate behavior against Dalip Samaraweera.
Samaraweera has been banned for 10 years from holding any position in CA or a state or territory association (including any w/BBL team). It was found that he had seriously violated Section 2.23 of the CA Code of Conduct. Section 2.23 of the Code refers to conduct that is either: (a) contrary to the spirit of cricket; (b) is inappropriate for any representative or officer; (c) is or may be detrimental to the interests of cricket; or (d) brings or may bring the game of cricket into disrepute.
The ban will be imposed in addition to the 20-year ban imposed on Samaraweera last month for a separate serious code of conduct breach. The allegations of inappropriate conduct arose when Samaraweera was employed at Cricket Victoria (CV), but relate to private coaching sessions outside this role. Samaraweera denied the allegations, but chose not to participate in the investigation and subsequent conduct commission hearing.
The CA Integrity Department investigates complaints brought to it under the Integrity Code and policies, which also apply to state and territory associations. The Conduct Commission hears cases referred to it by CA Integrity. CA issued a statement saying, “CA and CV are committed to providing a safe environment for all players and staff and the welfare of victims of abuse is paramount. We strongly encourage the reporting of inappropriate behaviour.” “, which can be done directly through the CA Integrity Unit or through the Core Integrity Hotline.”
