Panipat Serial Killer Poonam Child Murder Case
A shocking case of serial killer’s murder method that has come to light from Panipat, Haryana has become a cause of shock for both the police and the society. The mysterious drowning deaths of four children allegedly within two years have revealed only one face, 32-year-old Poonam. According to the police, the accused woman killed these children, including her own 3-year-old son, due to jealousy and distorted mentality.
Panipat SP Bhupendra Singh told in the press conference that between the year 2023 and 2025, Poonam targeted the children of her family and relatives. He said, “The accused appeared to behave like a psychopath. She believed that no child in her family should be more beautiful than her.” Poonam allegedly killed her sister-in-law’s 9-year-old daughter by drowning her. To avoid suspicion, he also drowned his 3-year-old son in water, to make the incidents look like an accident.
Here he targeted his cousin’s 6-year-old daughter in the same manner.
The death of 6-year-old Vidhi during a wedding ceremony on December 1 changed the course of the case. The girl’s body was found in a small water tub, which was closed from outside. The accident seemed impossible. Poonam’s activities in the CCTV footage led the police to her.
Upon vigorous questioning, Poonam confessed to all four murders. According to the police, she is an MA in Political Science and on the surface led a normal life, but deep inside she had a disturbed mindset. Family members said that on the wedding night, she was aloof, silent and unusually distant from all the family members—as if she had some other plan in mind even in the midst of the celebration.

Poonam would take advantage of the trust. She would take the children alone towards a tub or canal filled with water. During the struggle she would grab them and drown them. Later she would give false explanations about wet clothes and avoid suspicion by behaving normally.
According to the investigating officers, these cases are beyond the category of ordinary crimes. Poonam allegedly had a tendency to consider the beauty of children as a threat to herself. Family members say that she appeared calm and educated on the outside, but serious jealousy was growing inside. The police have sent him to judicial custody. An in-depth investigation of the matter is going on, so that it can be found out whether cases of similar pattern are hidden anywhere else.
This incident shows how dangerous behavior hidden within families and society can remain unnoticed for a long time, until it becomes tragic.
