India Stands For Peace Not Neutral Modiputin Talks
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out India’s position on the Ukraine conflict in very clear terms during bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Hyderabad House on Friday (December 5). PM Modi said that “India is not neutral, India is in favor of peace.” During Putin’s two-day visit to India, the two leaders held wide-ranging talks on global and bilateral issues. This message has come at a time when the Russia-Ukraine war remains a major focus of international politics.
Welcoming Putin and the Russian delegation, PM Modi said that since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis, the two countries have been in constant communication and Russia has informed India on every subject and expressed confidence. Modi said, “India is not neutral. We stand firmly in favor of peace. India believes that solutions come only through dialogue and diplomacy.”

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Russia and Ukraine will eventually move towards some agreement. He also mentioned 2001 and said that that period showed how visionary leadership decides the direction of relations between the two countries. He described India-Russia relations as one of the strongest long-term partnerships in the world.
Vladimir Putin thanked PM Modi and said that he received a warm welcome in India. The Russian President came to India on a visit of about 22 hours, where formal discussions between the two leaders started after reaching Hyderabad House on Friday afternoon.
Before the talks, Putin and Modi held delegation-level talks and discussed important strategic issues. Putin will leave for Moscow from Delhi at around 8 pm on Friday after attending the state banquet hosted by President Draupadi Murmu. Issues like defense cooperation, economic partnership, energy, space and global security are also likely to be discussed in the talks between the two countries.
