Rampur: Abdullah Azam sentenced to 7 years in fake document case

The special MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur on Friday (December 5) sentenced senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s son and former Suwar MLA Abdullah Azam to 7 years in prison for obtaining a passport using fake documents. The court has convicted him under sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC. Along with this, a fine of ₹ 50,000 has also been imposed on him.

This case was registered in the year 2019 on the complaint of BJP leader and Rampur MLA Akash Saxena. The allegation was that Abdullah Azam had falsified his date of birth and other personal documents to get the passport made.
During the hearing in the court, 5 prosecution witnesses and 19 defense witnesses appeared. After reviewing all the evidence, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to harsh punishment.

This decision has come at a time when the same special court had sentenced both Abdullah Azam and his father Azam Khan a few weeks ago in another case related to fake documents and PAN card. Both are lodged in Rampur District Jail since November 17. So far Abdullah Azam has been convicted in 3 cases, while his father and former MP Azam Khan has been convicted in 7 cases.

According to Rampur Prosecution Department, 77 cases against Azam Khan, 40 cases against Abdullah Azam.
Still pending in various courts of Rampur. These cases include many serious charges like land grabbing, fake documents, damaging enemy property, inflammatory speech, and damaging government property. The ongoing hearing in the courts has increased the legal troubles of this father and son.

The court said in the decision that falsification of documents is not just for personal gain but is a direct attack on government processes, hence strict punishment is necessary. Prosecution officer Rohtas Kumar Pandey said the available evidence made it clear that Abdullah had deliberately used fake certificates for passports.
