Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha MP and national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra, while addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Delhi on Sunday (December 7), targeted the Congress and said that in an effort to keep alive only the memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, his image and his so-called legacy, the Congress Party has destroyed the legacy of many great leaders from Sardar Patel to Subhash Chandra Bose and Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Today, it is the members of the Gandhi family who are harming the legacy of Pandit Nehru the most.
Dr. Sambit Patra said that you all know that the discussion on ‘Vande Mataram’ will start in Parliament on December 8, everyone will get an opportunity to listen to Prime Minister Modi. The second issue is that the way Sonia Gandhi, as the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, had said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is presenting the image of Pandit Nehru in a negative light, he is being portrayed as a villain, his history is being distorted and efforts are being made to erase his name from the public memory.
Attacking the Congress, National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra said that in an effort to keep alive the memory, image and so-called legacy of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress Party destroyed the legacy of many great leaders, whether they were inside or outside the Congress. The biggest example is that of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the way he was treated within the Congress itself is in front of everyone.
He said that similarly Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was neglected for years and attempts were made to belittle his contribution. Not only this, but the facts related to Pandit Nehru’s behavior towards Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who composed the Indian Constitution and was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee, are not hidden from anyone.
Lok Sabha MP Dr. Patra said that the public knows everything about Janardan, thanks to Prime Minister Modi that he gave this opportunity during the discussion on the Constitution in the Parliament, due to which it came to light that in the correspondence between Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the country saw what Ambedkar wrote about Nehru and what he thought about him. At the same time, the country also saw how the Congress Party took revenge.
Dr. Patra displayed a cartoon and said that till 2012 this cartoon was included in the NCERT books, in which Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was shown wielding the whip and Baba Saheb Ambedkar drafting the Constitution, whereas Baba Saheb is the creator of the Constitution, the symbol of which Rahul Gandhi is trying to do politics today. That depiction shows Pandit Nehru flogging Baba Saheb and this reflects the real legacy of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, whereas today the Gandhi family and the Nehru family are alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to change history.
The national spokesperson said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not trying to rewrite history, but is working to correct the history and give due respect to the real great men who have made real contributions to the country’s independence and nation building.
Dr. Sambit Patra said that Sonia Gandhi further said that for Pandit Nehru, secularism meant celebration of India’s diversity. In fact, this was the same secularism in which the existence of Lord Ram was denied and in which the reconstruction of Somnath temple was also opposed. He did not back down even from conspiring against a great personality like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, because the grand construction of Somnath temple was done by Sardar Patel. Some time ago, an excerpt from the book of Sardar Patel’s daughter Maniben Patel came to light, in which it was said that the suggestion of giving government grant for Babri Masjid was given by Nehru, but Sardar Patel opposed it. Then Nehru asked where did the money for Somnath temple come from? So Patel clarified that this work was done through trust and public cooperation, and not with government money.
The Lok Sabha MP said that there is an unsolicited advice to Sonia Gandhi that at least such questions should be asked to some other Congress leader and this responsibility should be given to leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, because if Sonia Gandhi herself raises such questions, then the country will ask that whose former name is ‘Antonia Maino’, what has been the contribution of her and her family in India’s freedom struggle? Therefore they should avoid raising such questions.
Dr. Patra said that the first important thing is that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru studied ‘Anandmath’ just six days before the proposed meeting of the Congress Working Committee and that too not in any Indian language but through the English version. Nehru himself admitted that he obtained the English version with great difficulty and read it, and had to take the help of a dictionary to understand ‘Vande Mataram’.
‘Sujlaan Suphalan Malayaj Shitalan Shasya Shyamalan Mataram’ means salutation to the motherland who gives us pure water, good fruits and cool breeze. Nehru needed a dictionary to understand this. There is no need to erase Nehru’s legacy, because a person who could not even understand the simple sentiments at this level cannot be one to create a legacy. Nehru also wrote that ‘Vande Mataram’ could ‘irritate’ the Muslim society. On Monday, when there will be a discussion in the Parliament regarding Vande Mataram, this false and distorted secularism of Nehru will be revealed to everyone and once again his truth will be revealed.
