Red Fort blast case: NIA arrests Dr. Bilal Naseer of Baramulla
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made another important arrest in the investigation of the horrific car blast that took place in the Red Fort area of Delhi. The agency arrested Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, resident of Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir) on 9 December. He is the 8th accused arrested in the bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. NIA team caught him from Delhi.
According to the investigating agencies, it has come to light that Dr. Bilal was a part of this terrorist conspiracy, in which Dr. Umar un Nabi and members of the ‘white collar’ terrorist module associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). This attack in the Red Fort area took the lives of a dozen people, while many others were injured. According to the NIA, Bilal provided logistical support to Umar un Nabi, knowingly harbored him and also helped in destroying evidence related to the attack.
The NIA said that it is continuing the investigation in collaboration with various agencies of the Center and the states to uncover the deeper conspiracy behind this deadly terrorist attack. The agency believes that there are many layers in the module, which are being combined to reveal the entire conspiracy.
After his arrest, Dr. Bilal Naseer was produced in the special court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna in Delhi, from where he was sent to NIA custody for seven days. The court also extended the custody of another accused in the same case, Amir Rashid Ali, for seven days.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Police, had busted this white collar terrorist network, which included a Kashmiri doctor, the India head of JeM’s women’s wing, and others. During the investigation, links reached Al-Falah University in Faridabad, from where around 2,900 kg of explosives were revealed. This latest action by the NIA is an indication that the agency is now focused on dismantling the entire module and reaching out to everyone involved in the conspiracy.
