Tmc Mp E Cigarette Lok Sabha Issue
The issue of continuous smoking of e-cigarette by TMC MP in the Lok Sabha is coming into limelight. BJP MP Anurag Thakur alleged that a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP has been smoking e-cigarette while sitting in the House for several days continuously, which created a sensation in the Parliament House. Although Thakur did not take names, he demanded immediate action on this from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
While speaking in the House, Anurag Thakur directly asked the Speaker, “E-cigarettes have been banned across the country, have you given permission to smoke in the House?” On this, Speaker Om Birla clearly said that he did not give any permission for any such thing. Thakur further alleged, “Sir, TMC MPs have been sitting and drinking continuously for many days, sir.” Although the BJP MP did not take the name, there is a discussion on social media that TMC MP Mahua Moitra was smoking e-cigarette, which has not been confirmed.

Calling it a clear violation of the rules of Parliament, he demanded immediate action. Speaker Birla assured that if any violation of rules is found, appropriate action will be taken.
Let us tell you that in 2019, the Government of India had imposed a complete ban on the production, import, sale and advertisement of e-cigarettes. Despite this, their secret sale continues in the market. In 2023, the Health Ministry has also launched an online portal to lodge complaints under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA).
During August this year, Crime Branch Unit-6 of Mumbai Police had seized banned e-cigarettes worth about ₹25.50 lakh from a warehouse in Kurla West. Police also arrested 31-year-old Ubed Mohammad Salim Shaikh during the raid.
