Women of Manipur honored on President Murmu Nupi Lal Day!
These movements are collectively known as ‘Nupi Lal’ and remain powerful symbols of leadership, courage and collective struggle of the women of Manipur.
After the tribute ceremony in Imphal, President Murmu will travel to Senapati district, a significant Naga-dominated area, where she is scheduled to address a public meeting.
During the event, she will lay the foundation stone of several development projects and inaugurate several works aimed at strengthening the infrastructure and socio-economic progress of the district.
Before this tour, preparations are going on in Imphal since Wednesday. Both sides of the approximately 7 kilometer stretch from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to Nupi Lal Memorial Complex have been repaired, repainted and decorated with flags, banners and other materials. Large welcome hoardings have also been put up on the way to welcome the President’s convoy.
This visit of President Murmu is the second major high-level visit to Manipur in the last three months.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress has demanded the President to dissolve the 12th Assembly of Manipur and hold elections for the 13th Assembly within six months.
State Congress President Kishan Meghachandra Singh, in a letter sent to the President through the Governor, said that the people of the state are expecting concrete steps from the President for restoration of peace and normalcy.
He urged that all the displaced people affected by the violence be safely sent back to their original homes within a stipulated time frame, while maintaining the unity and integrity of Manipur. The Congress has also sought to ensure unhindered movement in the state by road, air and water and protection of fundamental rights of citizens.
