Congress protest against vote theft at Ramlila Maidan today!
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday, Shivakumar said, “The ‘vote theft’ campaign in our state began with a big convention at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. Another big event will be held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. Over 1,000 party workers from Karnataka have already reached Delhi.”
He said party leaders have reached Delhi by train and flight from all parts of the state, and added that more than 100 MLAs and MLCs will attend the event. Shivkumar made it clear that he would also join them in the protest.
Shivakumar said that even after losing the election, party leader Rahul Gandhi had organized a similar program to create awareness among the people. “AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge is also leading this movement. We all are joining to support this campaign,” he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivkumar reached Delhi on December 14 to take part in the ‘vote theft’ protest organized at Ramlila Maidan. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is also scheduled to reach Delhi on Sunday to join the movement.
Speaking on the ‘vote theft’ issue, Shivakumar alleged that names of minority voters have been removed from voter lists across the country. He said, “Our leader, Rahul Gandhi, has raised this issue. He has not answered our questions; instead, they are asking us to give information. Information is not being given under the Right to Information Act (RTI). I had also asked for information, but it was not given.”
The Congress party says the purpose of the protest is to draw national attention to alleged irregularities in the electoral process and to hold officials accountable for removing voters’ names. The party leadership has said the agitation is part of a broader campaign to protect democracy and ensure free and fair elections across the country.
