India ranked third in global AI ranking; America in first place

India has made a major achievement in the field of Artificial Intelligence. According to Stanford University’s Global AI Vibrancy Index 2024, India has emerged as the third strongest AI country in the world. India has secured third place in this list after America and China. The special thing is that in the year 2023, India was ranked seventh in this index, that is, within a year India has jumped four places.

The Global AI Vibrancy Index prepared by Stanford University measures how competitive a country is in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Many important parameters like research and development (R&D), talent, economic activity, infrastructure, governance and public opinion are included in this index. Based on all these pillars, a weighted score is prepared, which shows how capable a country is in developing, implementing and using AI technology on a large scale.

According to the report, the United States is in first place with a score of 78.60. America remains the leader in AI research, economic use, infrastructure, private investment, compute capacity and AI model creation. Models like Gemini 2.0 Pro, o1 and Llama 3.1 reflect its strengths.
China remains in second place with a score of 36.95. China is in a strong position in AI research, publications, patents and launching new AI models, as well as its government strategy to widely integrate AI into the economy. India has reached third place with a score of 21.59, which is considered a big jump from seventh place in 2023.
Among other major countries, South Korea (17.24) stood fourth and the United Kingdom (16.64) stood fifth.

Many important reasons are being given behind this rapidly increasing ranking of India. Policies promoting AI at the government level, favorable environment for startups and public-private partnerships have strengthened the AI ecosystem. India has a strong talent pool in software, data science and engineering, which has enabled rapid growth in this sector.

India’s progress is not a coincidence, but the result of structural and policy efforts. Digital India, IndiaAI Mission and government support to AI research institutes are accelerating innovation. This, along with India’s vast data ecosystem and affordable yet skilled human resources, makes India attractive for global AI investments.

Experts believe that if this pace continues, India will not only become the center of global AI innovation in the coming years, but will also play an important role in AI-based economic development.
