Bail plea rejected; Director Vikram Bhatt and his wife sent to Udaipur Central Jail

Film director Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt have been sent to judicial custody after the court rejected their interim bail plea in a Rs 30 crore fraud case. A Udaipur court rejected their bail plea filed on medical grounds and ordered both of them to be sent to Udaipur Central Jail.

During the hearing of the case, interim bail was sought on medical grounds by the Bhatt couple. In this regard, their lawyer Manzoor Hussain had told news agency ANI, “The counsel for the accused has presented an application for interim bail, requesting that bail be granted on medical grounds. If interim bail is granted before the end of the court proceedings, both the persons can be released for a short time for treatment. Everything depends on the order of the court.” However, the court did not accept this argument and rejected the petition.

Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari Bhatt were earlier arrested by Rajasthan Police from Mumbai on December 7. After their arrest, both were kept in police custody and sent on police remand for seven days from December 9. After the remand period ended, both of them were produced in the Udaipur court, from where they were sent to judicial custody.

This case is related to the complaint filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF. The complaint alleges that Vikram Bhatt, his wife and other accused together committed a fraud of about Rs 30 crore in the name of production of several films, including a proposed biopic. According to the complaint, funds were raised with promises of big films and huge profits, but the alleged agreements and production plans were not fulfilled.

Vikram Bhatt has publicly rejected these allegations, calling the FIR “misleading”. He has said that he will cooperate fully in the investigation and if there is any problem regarding any incomplete project, it is due to misunderstanding or work being stopped by the complainant. Bhatt also claims that he has the necessary documents to support his case.

So far, charges have been registered against a total of eight people including the Bhatt couple in this case and further investigation is underway by the investigating agencies. The court’s remand to judicial custody is being considered an important development in this high-profile case, which is being watched by both the film industry and the business world.
