‘Dhurandhar’ beats ‘Baahubali’ at box office
The A-rated spy thriller ‘Dhurandhar’, directed by Aditya Dhar, has created history by defeating Baahubali at the box office. In just 13 days, the film has overtaken the lifetime earnings of ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ in India and across the world. The buzz at the box office is that this ‘Dhurandhar’ run is not only record-breaking but is also proving to be a bold turn for Hindi cinema, where an adult-certified film is also showing its dominance.
S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ earned around ₹421 crore in India and ₹650 crore worldwide in its entire run. In comparison, ‘Dhurandhar’ crossed the mark of ₹437.25 crore (net) in India and ₹674.50 crore worldwide by the end of second Wednesday (17th December), that too in just 13 days.
The day wise collection for 13 days was as follows:

- Saturday: ₹53 crore
- Sunday: ₹58 crore

Not only this, ‘Dhurandhar’ is now on the verge of becoming the biggest hit film ever among A-rated Indian films. Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ had earned ₹915 crore (gross) in its entire run. According to trade estimates, Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ will cross this figure in the coming days. The film’s worldwide gross has reached ~₹675 crore in 13 days and the target of entering the ₹1,000 crore club by the third weekend seems certain.
On the basis of strong word of mouth, ‘Dhurandhar’ had already registered the biggest second weekend of Hindi cinema, leaving behind ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ (Hindi version).
Talking about the story of the film, the film shows the journey of an Indian spy who infiltrates the Baloch gang of Rehman dacoit in Lyari Town, Karachi. It also highlights the era of gangs of Lyari Town, Karachi politics and terrorist networks which have been responsible for cross-border terrorism against India.
