Guwahati Nature Theme Airport Terminal Pm Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (December 20) inaugurated the new terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam. Built at a cost of around ₹4,000 crore, this terminal is being touted as India’s first nature-themed airport terminal. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister also inspected the terminal complex.

This airport is named after the first Chief Minister of Assam, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi. On the occasion of the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi also unveiled his 80 feet tall statue installed outside the airport. The new terminal has the capacity to handle more than 1.3 crore passengers annually, making it the largest airport terminal in Northeast India.

According to officials, the total cost of the entire project is around ₹5,000 crore. Of this, about ₹1,000 crore has been allocated for the development of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities. The project aims to develop Guwahati as a major aviation hub of North-East India and make it an important gateway to South-East Asia.

The new terminal is being developed by Adani Airports Holdings Limited. Bamboo and orchid based patterns have been used in the design of the terminal, reflecting the natural and cultural identity of Assam and the North-Eastern region. Officials said there was close coordination between the central and state governments in the implementation of the project.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had already sanctioned ₹116.2 crore for the expansion of the roads leading to the terminal and had also reviewed the progress and facilities of the project from time to time.

A day before the inauguration, on Friday, Prime Minister Modi had shared a glimpse of the new terminal, calling it “a big boost for the infrastructure of Assam”. He wrote on social media platform X that the increased capacity will improve the standard of living and strengthen trade and tourism. The new terminal is being considered as an important infrastructure to strengthen air connectivity and boost economic activities not only for Assam but for the entire North Eastern region.
