Leader of the House in the Legislative Council and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya clearly said that STF will investigate under the policy of zero tolerance against those who play with the health of the youth and whether the criminals are in the country or abroad, they will not be spared under any circumstances.

Presenting the government’s side in the Legislative Council, Keshav Prasad Maurya said that a three-member Special Task Force (STF) has been formed to stop smuggling and illegal sale of cough syrup containing codeine.

He said that instructions have been given to the Drug Administration Department to digitally tally the stock of codeine syrup in all the medical stores of the state. If found selling without a doctor’s prescription, the license of the concerned medical store will be immediately cancelled.

Neta Sadan said that to stop smuggling from other states through Uttar Pradesh, the police have been instructed to increase the strictness at the checkposts. Strictest action will be ensured against those selling poison in the name of medicine.

Keshav Maurya clarified in the House that many large wholesale licenses of cough syrup containing codeine were given in the year 2016 during the Samajwadi Party government, when the rules were ignored. Today, youth and children are suffering the consequences of the same.

He said that the policy of the double engine government is of zero tolerance towards crime and there is a clear instruction from the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister that no matter which party, religion or caste the criminal belongs to, action will be taken against him under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act as well as the NDPS Act and the Gangster Act.
