Gujarat tops in rooftop solar, 5 lakh installations, 1,879 MW capacity achieved!
Gujarat has registered a historic achievement in the field of renewable energy by installing more than 5 lakh rooftop solar systems with a total installed capacity of 1,879 MW. This achievement under the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly reflects Gujarat’s leading role in the adoption of rooftop solar.
Let us tell you that under various schemes and incentive initiatives of Gujarat Government, till now more than 11 lakh solar rooftop systems have been installed in Gujarat. Not only this, Gujarat has also achieved 50 percent of the ambitious target of installing 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027 ahead of schedule.
Commenting on this significant achievement, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “The present times are defined by green growth driven by solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy as well as green hydrogen.
Gujarat has long prepared for this transition and today the state contributes significantly to India’s total renewable energy potential. Notably, Gujarat is leading the country in solar rooftop planning and is setting the benchmark for sustainable progress.
“This achievement has been possible under the visionary leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development has inspired and enabled Gujarat to turn its vision into reality.”
With an aim to achieve widespread adoption of rooftop solar, attractive subsidy benefits are being provided by the state government under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Under this, a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt is being given on systems with a capacity of up to 2 kilowatts, Rs 18,000 per kilowatt on systems with a capacity of more than 2 kilowatts and up to 3 kilowatts, while there is a provision of a maximum subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 for systems with a capacity of more than 3 kilowatts. So far, residential consumers have benefited from subsidy worth ₹3,778 crore under this scheme.
Not only this, regulatory duty subvention of up to ₹2,950 is also given in the state for systems up to 6 kW, network strengthening charges have been waived and consumers are also exempted from net metering agreements.
Additionally, there is no load limit for residential solar installations. Additionally, consumers get the facility to sell excess power and are not charged any banking charges.
The Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference to be held in Rajkot from 10th January will specifically showcase inspiring success stories of Gujarat rooftop solar, including examples of households that have not only reduced their electricity bills but are now generating surplus power from rooftop solar to provide it to the grid and earning additional income from it.
