Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate, e-launch and distribute charters of many important projects of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Sunday. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel will also be present on this occasion.

To further strengthen the overall urban development, modern infrastructure and civic amenities of Ahmedabad city, a program of inauguration, e-inauguration and certificate distribution of several important projects undertaken by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be organized. The event will mark the inauguration of the Western Trunk Main Line project, which is very important for the western and south-western regions of Ahmedabad city.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has laid a new drainage trunk line of total length of 27.719 km from Vaishnodevi Circle to Sabarmati River via Oganj, Shilaj, Ambli, Shantipura and Sanathal area at a cost of about Rs 326 crore. Under this project, work of 27.304 km length has been successfully completed.

1200 mm, 1800 mm and 2400/2500 mm diameter RCC pipelines have been used in the Western Trunk Line project, of which approximately 8,125 meters have been completed using advanced micro-tunneling method.

For the first time in Asia, a 2400/2500 mm diameter pipe has been laid in a continuous length approximately 12 meters below the ground surface using micro-tunneling method. This work has been completed without any traffic jam on a busy road like Sardar Patel Ring Road.

On completion of this project, the long standing problem of drainage overflow and sewage in areas like Gota, Chandlodiya, Science City Area, South Bopal, Bhadaj, Hebatpur, Thaltej, Bopal-Ghuma, Bodakdev, Vejalpur, Sarkhej, Maktampura, Mahmoodpura, Fatehwadi, Shantipura and Sanathal will be solved forever. Due to this project, about 18 to 20 lakh citizens will benefit from modern and safe drainage facilities.

Apart from this, pilot stretch development work at a cost of Rs 4 crore from ISKCON to Pakwan intersection, which is essential for traffic and urban aesthetics of Ahmedabad city, will be inaugurated.

Under this pilot stretch, the road has been given a modern look with footpaths, cycle tracks, street furniture, landscaping, lighting, signage and pedestrian-friendly design. This road development project will be adopted as a model to be implemented in other areas of the city in future.
