Discussions Are Underway With The Nda Regarding The Number Of Seats For The Bmc Elections Athawale
Political rhetoric regarding Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections is intense. Republican Party of India (Athawale) national president and Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale said on Monday that talks are going on with the NDA on the number of seats for the BMC elections.
Speaking to IANS, Ramdas Athawale said, “Republican Party of India is an old friend of BJP. Mumbai Municipality is the oldest and prestigious municipality, hence ever since its election dates were announced, there were many discussions going on between Shiv Sena and BJP regarding the elections, in which we were not being invited. There was no discussion on which ward the Republican Party should contest from.”
He said, “We had once announced that those who want to contest the municipal elections should take the form of our party. At that time, our workers had expressed their desire to contest the elections from 78 wards, out of which we had selected 26 wards. Amit Satam had given us the list of 26 wards. However, no direct discussion has taken place till now.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has a clear message that the Republican Party will be respected and given a seat. There will soon be a discussion on inviting party workers to contest elections. BJP should leave maximum seats for us. Our strength is in Mumbai.”
Regarding the political scenario, Athawale said, “Politics is for profit. Elections are held so that people work after getting elected. The way Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi has gone with Congress, they were not going to go with Congress, but they have decided to contest elections with Congress.
Uddhav and Raj Thackeray have also come together, while on the other hand BJP and Shiv Sena have also come together. But at many places BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress are fighting, while at some places RPI is also being considered to give seats.”
Athawale said, “Devendra Fadnavis and Ravindra Chauhan are our good friends. They need to use RPI properly in the BMC elections. I think in the total 227 wards, Republican Party people live in every ward. In such a situation, Shiv Sena and BJP are going to get good benefit from our party in Mumbai.
We should get 14-15 seats in Mumbai. We should at least be given a seat on the seat where our party is strong. Wherever BJP leaves the seat, we will take its symbol there. Wherever Shiv Sena will lose its seat, we can also take the Shiv Sena symbol there.”
