Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday (December 30) launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her government, saying that fear and corruption have become the identity of the state for the last 14 years. He alleged that during the rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, development has come to a complete standstill and illegal infiltration is being given political patronage.
Addressing a press conference, Amit Shah said, “Development has stopped in West Bengal due to corruption in the Mamata Banerjee-led government. All the welfare schemes launched by the Modi government have become victims of toll syndicates here. Fear and corruption have become the identity of West Bengal for the last 14 years. After April 15, 2026, when the BJP government is formed in West Bengal, we will start the work of revival of the heritage and culture of Bengal. This ‘Banga Bhoomi’ is very important for us, because BJP was founded by Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, who was a big leader from here.”

On the issue of illegal infiltration, the Home Minister said that infiltration has been stopped in Tripura and Assam, but it continues in West Bengal. He alleged that Mamata Banerjee is deliberately allowing this to happen for political gains.
Raising the question, Amit Shah said, “Mamata, today I want to ask you a simple question. Which government refuses to give land for fencing the border? I myself answer, your government. Then I ask, why do infiltrators enter Bengal in the first place? What are your Patwaris and police stations doing? Why are these infiltrators not sent back? Why has infiltration stopped in Assam and Tripura, but why does it continue in Bengal? All this. It is happening under your supervision that you want to change the demography of Bengal to increase the vote bank.

He said that infiltration from the Bengal border is a serious issue not only of the state but of national security. “Infiltration from Bengal’s borders is not just a state matter, it is a question of national security. If the country’s culture has to be protected and security is to be ensured, then a government has to be brought in which seals Bengal’s borders. TMC cannot do this, only BJP can,” Shah said.
Expressing confidence in BJP’s electoral prospects, Amit Shah counted the election figures from 2014 to 2024 and claimed that in the 2026 assembly elections, BJP will form the government with two-thirds majority. He said that the same party which had got only three seats in 2016, reached 77 seats in 2021 and will now come to power in 2026.
