The tension between Russia and Ukraine does not seem to be reducing even in the new year. Recently, Russia had claimed that Ukraine attacked the residence of President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, now Ukraine has accused Russia of carrying out more than 200 drone attacks on the occasion of New Year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also shared photos.
“Russia deliberately brought war into the New Year, launching more than two hundred drones against Ukraine overnight. Most of them were shot down, and I thank all our warriors who repelled this attack,” Ukrainian President Zelensky wrote on social media platform
The Ukrainian president further wrote that the attacks targeted Volyn, Rivne, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. The target was our energy infrastructure. Rescue teams are helping where needed, and power engineers are restoring power after attacks. I thank everyone involved in dealing with the situation after the attack.
Zelensky further wrote on
We hope that whatever was decided with America for our security at the end of December, will be achieved on time. “I am grateful to everyone for standing with Ukraine and their readiness to work for our security.”
In a short message given on the occasion of New Year, Putin described the soldiers involved in the war as the heroes of the country. On New Year, this message was first broadcast from Kamchatka, the Far Eastern region of Russia. This information came to light in the report of The Moscow Times.
Putin told his soldiers and commanders that the country has faith in you and victory will be ours. The message was broadcast as Russia celebrated its main public holiday against the backdrop of a long and costly conflict.
Both sides have suffered huge losses in this war. It is believed that military casualties on both sides, Russia and Ukraine, are in the thousands. At the same time, millions of Ukrainian citizens have been forced to leave their homes.
Putin spent most of his New Year speech talking about war. He made no mention of allegations that Ukraine had tried to launch a drone attack on one of his residences. Ukraine has clearly rejected these allegations. Let us tell you, on December 31, 26 years have passed since Putin came to power in Russia.
