“Dynasticism is not wrong in Bollywood, but…” Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri told when does dynasty become poison?

The debate about nepotism in Bollywood is always heated. It is alleged that star kids get big roles, films and promotions easily, whereas skilled artists coming from outside have to work hard and struggle. Many generations of artists have dominated the industry, due to which opportunities for skilled and hard-working artists are snatched away.

Many star kids like Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Janhvi Kapoor get films in Bollywood due to good contacts, but many such flops also happen. Not only this, many artists from outside the industry complained that they do not get offers of work or style. Meanwhile, producer-director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, who speaks vocally on any issue, expressed his opinion on nepotism and explained it with the example of ‘potter and pot’.

Vivek Ranjan believes that nepotism should be seen in a ‘positive’ manner, but when it suppresses merit, it goes wrong.

While talking to the media, he told that he actually does not consider nepotism wrong. He told, “I believe that nepotism in itself is not a bad thing. For example, understand that a doctor’s son becomes a doctor, a teacher’s son a teacher, an artisan’s son an artisan, then what is wrong in that? Similarly, if there is a potter and his son knows how to make matka very well, then there is nothing wrong in him getting a chance to make good matka.”

The director says that nepotism is right only when the person has competence and skill. If there is an opportunity because of family but there is no talent, then it is wrong and harms the talented people in the industry.

‘The Bengal Files’ director told when nepotism becomes fatal or poisonous. Vivek Ranjan further said, “The problem arises when the potter’s son does not know how to make matka. Every time he tries, the pot breaks. Yet he is forcefully given the responsibility of making matka, while others standing in the queue can make better matka. He does not get a chance and all the money is invested only on him. Then nepotism becomes poison.”
