13 dead, 101 rescued after ferry capsizes in Mumbai | Read

A boat capsized off the Mumbai coast on Wednesday evening, resulting in the deaths of 13 people. A massive search and rescue operation was launched, during which approximately 101 people were rescued.


The accident occurred when a speedboat collided with the ferry named ‘Neelkamal’ at around 3:55 PM. The ferry was struck near, Karanja, while it was en route to Elephanta Islands, a popular tourist destination.

The moment of the collision was captured on camera, and the video is now viral on Social Media. Visuals show a small speedboat with 4-6 passengers riding in the water. The speedboat then takes a U-turn and approaches the ferry, hitting it hard. It is reported that the ferry began sinking after the collision.

The Navy Coast Guard a rescue operation involving 11 Navy boats, three Marine Police boats, and a Guard boat. Four helicopters were also deployed for the search and rescue operation.

Personnel from the police, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, and local fishermen were also involved in the rescue efforts, according to officials.
