13 passengers died, 98 injured in train accident, army engaged in rescue work, injured were sent to hospital by air ambulance.

New Delhi. The Mexican Naval Secretariat reported that a train accident has occurred on the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railway on the Cruz-Coatzacoalcos route. 13 people died and 98 others were injured in the accident. According to a statement issued by the Mexican Navy, it maintains the interoceanic corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The train on Line Z was carrying about 250 passengers at the time of the accident. Of the 98 injured, 36 are currently undergoing treatment in hospital, while the remaining passengers have suffered minor injuries. A total of 139 passengers have been declared out of danger.

The Navy expressed its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. The Navy said massive search and rescue operations were launched after the accident, with 360 naval personnel, 20 vehicles, four ground ambulances, three air ambulances and a tactical drone deployed to assist in the emergency response. Officials said they will continue to work in coordination with relevant agencies to ascertain the cause of the accident and ensure assistance to the victims and their families. Following the accident, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo directed the Secretary of the Navy and the Deputy Secretary for Human Rights of the Secretariat of the Interior to visit the accident site and personally meet with the affected families. He also said that the injured passengers were being treated at the IMMS hospitals of Matias Romero and Celina Cruz, as well as the IMMS-Wellbeing hospitals of Juchitán and Ixtepec. Instructed the representatives there to assist in relief and medical efforts.
