Abhishek Sharma Prepares To Tackle Usman Tariq Captain Surya Is Helping
The Indian team has intensified preparations ahead of the high-voltage match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 between India and Pakistan. Before this important match to be held in Colombo, the focus is especially on dealing with the challenge of Pakistan’s mystery spinner Usman Tariq, for which Indian opener Abhishek Sharma was seen practicing.
Suryakumar Yadav himself tried to prepare the batsmen for Usman’s unique bowling style by bowling in the nets. In a video shared by ICC, Suryakumar was seen bowling to Rinku Singh, where he tried to imitate Usman’s signature rhythm by taking slight pauses before the delivery.
Although this was not an exact copy, it clearly indicated that Team India was doing special practice to understand and break Pakistan’s spin strategy. Opener Abhishek Sharma and other batsmen also faced bowlers in the nets whose action and pace were similar to Usman.

A look at the special style of Usman Tariq
28-year-old Usman Tariq is in the news because of his sidearm action and his style of stopping before throwing the ball. He has taken 11 wickets in four T20 Internationals at an average of 7.90, including a four-wicket haul. In the ongoing World Cup, he had an impressive performance of 3/27 in four overs against America.

Amidst the discussion over his bowling action, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha said, “You all have made Usman Tariq a big name. All 15 players are important for us. He is bowling well. You can definitely say that he is a trump card for us. He has been cleared by the ICC, so I don’t understand why everyone is talking about him. These things have no effect on Usman. He is fine. He is not worried about these things.”
Suryakumar Yadav said on Usman Tariq, “See, sometimes there is a question in the exam which is outside the syllabus. So, we cannot leave that question. To deal with it, you have to make some efforts. You have to adopt your own method. And we also try the same.”
He further added, “Yes, he (Usman Tariq) is a different type when he comes to bowl. But at the same time, we cannot give up. We practice with the same bowlers and the same actions. And we will try to carry on what we are practicing in the net sessions during the match.”
Pakistan’s spin attack includes options like Abrar, Usman, Salman, Nawaz and Sam, who can change the course of the match in the middle overs. India have faced some difficulties against spin in this tournament—losing three wickets for 42 runs in eight overs against America and five wickets for 61 runs in eight overs against Namibia.
In such a situation, this match in Colombo can prove to be a tough test of strategy and patience, where the war of spin will play an important role in deciding the outcome.
