Maharashtra Ats Raids 21 Locations On Suspicion Of Terror Links

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Sunday (February 15) conducted a simultaneous raid at 21 locations across the state. This action was taken following inputs in which there were apprehensions of attempts to activate and radicalize some youth through contact networks with terrorist organizations.

According to news agencies, the search operation was conducted at 14 places in Pusad and Umarkhed and seven places in Ahilyanagar in Yavatmal district. After receiving information about suspicious activities, several ATS teams were deployed simultaneously at different locations since Sunday morning.

According to officials, this action is being taken as part of the investigation into contacts and activities related to possible terrorist organizations. Documents, digital devices and other evidence are being collected during the search. Detailed information is likely to be made public only after the raid is completed.

Earlier on December 12, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted a coordinated search operation in Borivali village near Padgha in Thane district, in which Maharashtra’s Anti Terrorism Squad cooperated. This action was taken as part of the investigation into suspected terrorist funding and related financial transactions.

It was told that this search operation was conducted at about 40 places in Maharashtra besides Padgha, Pune and Malegaon and also in Delhi. Investigative agencies are probing the network of suspicious financial transactions related to terrorism.

ED has also filed an ECIR related to the ISIS module case registered by the National Investigation Agency. This case is said to be related to the ISIS module related to Saqib Nachan and the Pune ISIS module case. While ATS is investigating these modules in parallel, it is also sharing intelligence, clues and ground updates with the ED, so that the search operations can be carried out in a coordinated and effective manner.

At present the agencies are examining the evidence collected. The situation regarding further action and possible arrest will become clear only after the official statement comes.
