West Bengal: Seven officers suspended for dereliction of duty during SIR
The Election Commission has suspended seven officials of West Bengal. Also, the Chief Secretary of the state has been instructed to initiate disciplinary action against him immediately. All these officers are accused of dereliction of duty and abuse of legal powers in cases related to SIR (Special Intensive Review).
In a series of letters sent to West Bengal Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty on Sunday (February 16) night, the Commission ordered the immediate suspension of seven Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) posted in different districts. In the letter, instructions have also been given to the Cadre Controlling Authority to initiate disciplinary action without any delay and to inform the Commission about it.
Of these seven officers, three are posted in Murshidabad district, two in South 24 Parganas and one each in West Medinipur and Jalpaiguri districts. The suspended officers include Dr. Sefaur Rehman, assistant director of agriculture department of Murshidabad and AERO of 56-Samserganj assembly constituency; 55-Farakka Assembly Constituency Revenue Officer and AERO Nitish Das; And ADA and AERO S. of 57-Suti assembly constituency. Of. Murshid Alam is included.
Apart from this, Women Development Officer of Maynaguri Development Block and AERO Dalia Ray Chaudhary of 16-Maynaguri Assembly Constituency have also been suspended. AEROs Satyajit Das and Joydeep Kundu of 139-Canning Purbo assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas and joint BDO and AERO Debashish Biswas of 229-Debra assembly constituency of West Medinipur have also been suspended.
The Commission has sought an immediate report from the state government regarding the action taken against these officers.
