Make-up artist by day, queen of drug network by night: Such was the double life of ‘Madame Zehar’

Taking a major action against organized crime, the Counter Intelligence Unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested Khusnuma Ansari alias Neha. According to the police, Khusnuma Ansari was known as ‘Madam Zehar’ in the crime world. According to Delhi Police Special Cell Counter Intelligence, she used to run a beauty parlor in North-East Delhi during the day, and at night she operated the drug network of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Investigating agencies claim that Khusnuma Ansari was associated with the gang for a long time and has been a close associate and partner of active gang member Bobby Kabootar. The real name of Bobby Kabootar is said to be Mahfooz, who is considered an important link in the supply of weapons and field operations for the gang. According to the police, both were working together in criminal activities for the last seven years.

Police took action near Mahipalpur flyover and arrested Khusnuma, Bobby and two other accused. A huge quantity of narcotics were recovered from the spot. Authorities say that ‘Madame Zeher’ managed the gang’s drug distribution network, while in public life she presented herself as a normal businesswoman.

Investigation has also revealed that Bobby Kabootar is also related to Hashim Baba gang. According to the police, he allegedly procured weapons from Salim Pistol, a major supplier of illegal arms, who is suspected to have links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter Service Intelligence (ISI).

Officials claim that the weapons supplied by this network were used in many high-profile incidents across the country. These are said to include the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala in 2022, firing outside the house of actress Disha Patani, murder of Nadir Shah in Delhi and Seelampur double murder case.

On 29 May 2022, Sidhu Moosewala was attacked in Jawahar village of Mansa. According to the FIR, the attackers surrounded two vehicles and opened fire. Responsibility for the incident was later claimed by Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar, who is said to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This incident happened when the Punjab government had cut down the security of Moosewala a day earlier.

Police officials say that the role of women in organized crime seems to be increasing in recent years. Earlier, women like Deepa and Zoya Khan have also been arrested in Chandigarh. At present the interrogation of Khusnuma and Bobby is going on. The investigating agencies are busy gathering information about the gang’s financial network, supply chain and sleeper sales active in NCR.
