Floyd Mayweather can return to professional boxing
Veteran boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has once again hinted at returning to the professional boxing ring. The former world champion has said that he is considering making an official professional fight. Mayweather’s statement has created a stir in the boxing world.
Mayweather made a record of 50-0 by defeating Conor McGregor in 2017. In that match, he won by TKO in the tenth round and announced his retirement soon after. However, even after retirement, Mayweather did not completely move away from boxing. He has entered the ring for several exhibition bouts against professional boxers, MMA fighters and celebrities.
He faced John Gotti III in Mexico in August 2024. Mayweather is preparing for a fight with 59-year-old Mike Tyson in 2026. This match is proposed in Congo in April 2026. It is being considered one of the most talked about events in boxing history. Despite the combined age of both the boxers being more than 100 years, there is tremendous excitement about this event among the fans.
Mayweather said in the statement that hardly any other fighter can achieve more gate revenue, global viewership and earnings from his events. The event with Tyson could be a step towards his possible return. If this comeback becomes official, it will be his first professional fight in almost nine years.
Mayweather, who has been world champion in five different weight divisions, has had a historic career. The fight with Tyson will decide the 48-year-old Mayweather’s future as a professional boxer. However, Mayweather’s fans would definitely like him to return to the ring.
