Mann Ki Baat: “Players of Indian origin are making other countries proud in the T20 World Cup”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on various issues in the 131st edition of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday. Referring to the T20 World Cup 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Indian players playing in teams of other countries.

The Prime Minister said, “Whoever plays should blossom, sports also connects us. Nowadays, you must be watching T20 World Cup matches. I am sure that while watching the match, your eyes would be fixed on a particular player. The jersey is of a country and after hearing the name, you feel that it is from your country, then there is a slight happiness in some corner of the heart, because that player is of Indian origin and he plays for the country where his family has settled. They go to the field wearing the jerseys of their respective countries. Come down and represent that country with all your heart.”

PM Modi further said, “The Canadian team has the highest number of players of Indian origin. Team captain Dilpreet Bajwa was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab. Navneet Dhaliwal is from Chandigarh. There are many names in this list like Harsh Thakar and Shreyas Moa, who are making Canada proud as well as India. Many faces of the US team have come from Indian domestic cricket. US team captain Monank Patel is from Gujarat Under-16. And have also played for Under-18, Saurabh, Harmeet Singh, and Milind Kumar of Delhi are the pride of the American team.

The Prime Minister said, “There are many faces in the Oman team, who have previously played in different states of India. Players like Jatindra Singh, Vinayak Shukla, Karan, Jai and Ashish are the strong link of the Oman cricket team. Players of Indian origin are also making their place in the teams of New Zealand, UAE and Italy. There are many such Indian players, who are making their country proud and becoming an inspiration for the youth there. This is the specialty of Indianness, wherever Indians go. They remain connected to the roots of their motherland and contribute to the development of the country in which they live.
