T20 World Cup: Ashwin’s advice, Pakistan should give a chance to Fakhar Zaman in the middle order!

Pakistan cricket team will play the Super-8 match of T20 World Cup 2026 against England on Tuesday. Earlier, its Super-8 match against New Zealand was canceled due to rain. Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has suggested that if the team captained by Salman is serious about this tournament, then they should include experienced batsman Fakhar Zaman in the playing eleven.

Fakhar Zaman has not got a chance to play even a single match in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far. 35-year-old Fakhar Zaman last played for the team in the home T20 series against Australia, scoring only 20 runs in two matches. He was included in the playing eleven against New Zealand in the Super-8 match of T20 World Cup 2026, but due to rain after the toss, not a single ball could be bowled in this match.

Fakhar Zaman made his debut in T20 International cricket on 7 June 2017. Since then, Fakhar has played 118 T20 matches for Pakistan, in which he scored 2,385 runs at an average of 23.38. During this period, 13 half-centuries came from his bat. Apart from this, the left-handed batsman has played 3 Tests and 92 ODI matches.

According to Ashwin, Fakhar’s ability to sweep against spinners can be very useful for Pakistan in the match against England.

Along with this, Ashwin also suggested Pakistan to follow the blueprint of Nepal’s batsmen against Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson, which had given them a lot of success against the two-time champions. Nepal had scored 42 runs in three overs against England’s prime bowler Adil Rashid in the group stage match. Adil could not take even a single wicket in that match.

Sharing Nepal’s wagon wheel against Adil Rashid, Ashwin said, “This was the formula for Nepal’s success against Rashid, and there are certain things that other teams can try to adopt. Use the square boundary to get the ball in the step hit zone.”
