Modi-Netanyahu talks give new direction to strategic partnership; Emphasis on AI, quantum and cyber security
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Tel Aviv on Wednesday (February 25) on a two-day state visit. The visit is seen as an expansion of the India-Israel strategic partnership established in 2017. Although the prime minister will arrive in Tel Aviv, the center of diplomatic activity will be Jerusalem, where he is scheduled to hold wide-ranging talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Indian Ambassador JP Singh termed the visit historic, saying the two countries now share a common vision on global counter-terrorism operations. He underlined that this partnership, tested during regional crises, is now moving beyond traditional cooperation and entering a new phase of high-technology and security integration.
The itinerary also includes a constitutionally important stop. Prime Minister Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. According to analysts, it is a symbol of democratic unity and underlines India’s growing role on the global stage.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will interact with the Indian-origin community in Israel and participate in a special technology exhibition that will showcase the innovation-led nature of the bilateral relationship.
On the second day of the visit, the Prime Minister will visit Yad Vashem and pay homage at the Holocaust Memorial Center. He will also spend time at the ‘Book of Names’, which contains the names of more than 48 lakh Jewish victims, including about 15 lakh children. The Prime Minister will then meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This will be followed by an extended summit with Prime Minister Netanyahu, in which several strategic agreements are likely to be exchanged.
The main focus of the visit is to strengthen cooperation in deep tech areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and cyber security. New protocols are expected to be signed in advanced areas of science and technology, which will further strengthen the foundation laid almost a decade ago.
After the high-level meetings, the Prime Minister will leave for New Delhi from Tel Aviv. This visit is considered important in giving a new definition to India’s strategic presence in West Asia and taking forward technology-security based partnership.
