Swollen veins in legs causing pain? Adopt these easy measures, you will get relief

Swelling of the veins in the legs is a serious problem. Often people ignore it considering it to be fatigue, mild swelling or the effect of age. When the veins of the legs become weak and blood does not flow properly in them, the veins swell and start looking crooked. This causes pain, burning and heaviness. In medical language it is called “varicose veins”. Both Ayurveda and science believe that this problem increases gradually, but with proper care and lifestyle it can be controlled to a great extent.

According to Ayurveda, swollen veins in legs are mainly associated with Vata Dosha and weakness of blood circulation. When Vata becomes unbalanced in the body, dryness and weakness begin to occur in the nerves. At the same time, science says that when the valves present inside the veins become weak, the blood starts accumulating downwards, due to which the veins become swollen. In such a situation, one can get relief from this problem by taking regular care and adopting right habits.

Compression stockings can provide relief in this problem. According to science, these special types of socks are light on the feet, but provide constant pressure. This helps the blood accumulated in the veins to flow upwards and the swelling gradually reduces. Wearing compression stockings regularly reduces pain and heaviness in the legs.

Keeping the legs elevated is an effective solution. When you place a pillow under your legs while lying down, the blood flow automatically improves. This reduces the pressure on the veins and swelling starts reducing. Ayurveda considers it a way to give natural relaxation to the body.

It is also very important to have proper eating habits. Ayurveda says that light, easy to digest and nutritious food keeps the blood pure and the nerves strong. Science also believes that a diet rich in potassium, vitamin C and fiber helps reduce inflammation. Eating green vegetables, fruits, pulses and drinking enough water removes excess fluid accumulated in the body, thereby reducing swelling of the legs.

Regular exercise works like a panacea for this problem. Daily walking, light stretching or doing leg exercises keeps the muscles active. When the muscles move, they press on the veins and push blood upward.
