High alert in India after Khamenei’s death, warning of strict action on violation of law and order
In view of the situation in the Middle East, a high alert has been issued in India. The Home Ministry and security agencies have directed all the states to keep an eye on suspicious people and deploy police forces to maintain law and order in the state, so that peace is maintained in the country.
Demonstrations are taking place in various states of the country in support of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the US-Israel attack. Some people are trying to spread confusion in the country through social media. At the same time, the police administration in the states has also given strict warning regarding the use of social media. Citizens have been asked to avoid posting, sharing or forwarding any kind of objectionable, inflammatory or unwanted content. Rumors and misleading messages can spoil the atmosphere and pose a serious challenge to law and order.
The police-administration said that the right to express one’s views in a peaceful and legal manner is respected but violence, damage to public property and confrontation with security forces is not acceptable under any circumstances. Such incidents cause loss of life and property and cause trouble to the entire society.
Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against any violation. Those elements involved in illegal activities, instigators and anti-social elements will be identified and strict action will be taken against them.
In this sequence, in view of the current situation in Bandipora district of Karnataka, the local police has appealed to the common citizens for cooperation in maintaining law and order. The police-administration has said that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to maintain peace and security in the area, hence people should stay away from any activity which may cause disturbance to public peace.
In the appeal issued by the police, it has been said that people should not indulge in vandalism, rioting, stone pelting or any kind of disturbance. Doing so is not only against the law, but it also causes a lot of trouble to the general public, businessmen, students and daily wage labourers. Due to violence and unrest, there is a possibility of closure of educational institutions, disruption in mobility and impact on economic activities.
