Iran: Khamenei’s last farewell ceremony postponed amid US-Israel attacks!

The ceremony planned for Wednesday night for the final farewell of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran’s capital Tehran has been postponed. Iranian state media has confirmed that a three-day farewell ceremony at the Imam Khomeini Prayer Hall in Tehran, scheduled to begin this evening (4 March 2026), has been postponed.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the decision to postpone the event was taken due to logistical problems related to the event. Officials said that the new date of the ceremony will be announced soon.

According to the report, the event was to start at 10 pm on Wednesday night and a large number of people from different provinces of the country were expected to participate in it.

An official said citizens from several provinces had expressed their desire to participate in the event, putting additional pressure on arrangements for the event. In view of the challenges faced regarding security, traffic and crowd management, the administration decided to postpone it as a precautionary measure.

Many top officials including Khamenei were killed in the US-Israel joint airstrike last Saturday. Some members of the supreme religious leader’s family were also killed in the airstrike.

Nearly five days after his death, state media reported that his son Mojtaba Khamenei had been elected by the Assembly of Experts as the new Supreme Leader. At present it has not been officially announced. Meanwhile, a statement by Israel’s Defense Minister is also in the headlines in which he has said that Israel will hunt down and kill anyone elected in place of Khamenei.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the supreme leader of Iran and played a central role in the country’s political and religious system. After assuming power in 1989, he had a significant influence on shaping Iran’s foreign policy, defense strategy and regional stance.
