Omar Abdullah’s talks with civil society in Srinagar, prayers for Iran victims!
The Chief Minister’s Office issued a statement saying, “In view of the recent developments in West Asia, the Chief Minister on Wednesday interacted with religious leaders and civil society members in Srinagar. Those present expressed concern over the situation and expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property in Iran.”
CM Omar Abdullah stressed on the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. Emphasis was also laid on respecting people’s sentiments and ensuring that expressions of grief and mourning take place in a peaceful and responsible manner.
This is Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s first interaction with members of civil society in Kashmir since the US and Israel began attacks on Iran.
Prominent members of civil society, including religious leaders, social workers and business representatives participated in the talks with the Chief Minister.
The CM already condemned the attack on Iran and emphasized that the right to change power lies only with the Iranian people and not with external powers. He is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the safe return of Kashmiri students studying in Iran.
It is necessary to mention that before the conflict started, CM Omar Abdullah had appealed to the parents to take the Foreign Ministry’s advice seriously and take their children back before the closure of Iranian airspace.
Meanwhile, strict restrictions continued for the third day to maintain law and order in the valley. All schools, colleges and universities will remain closed till March 7.
Internet speed has been reduced so that mischievous elements cannot upload inflammatory material on social media.
Police have also registered an FIR against some people, including MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and former Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo, for uploading objectionable material.
