Amidst the global oil crisis, India will have to choose its own source of supply: Russian Ambassador!
Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov on Thursday appealed to resolve the ongoing conflict in West Asia through dialogue. Also expressed concern over the increase in global fuel prices due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Russian diplomat said that amid rising oil prices, it will be up to India to decide who to choose for supply, even though Moscow has always been ready to supply oil to India.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Alipov said, “The solution always comes through dialogue. The conflict should end as soon as possible.” When asked how long the war will last, he said, “I have no idea. This question should be asked to America.”
Amid speculation about the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Alipov said, “It is for India to decide on the supply and supply source. We have always been ready to supply oil to India.”
On February 28, Russia had condemned America and Israel’s attack on Iran without any reason. At the same time, the urgent need to bring the situation back towards a political and diplomatic solution was stressed.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation on Saturday at the initiative of Iran.
A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry after the call said, “The Iranian minister informed about the Iranian leadership’s steps to stop the US and Israeli attacks, which have once again hindered negotiations for a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear program. He also announced plans to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.”
Sergei Lavrov condemned the unprovoked armed attack on Iran by the United States and Israel, which violates the principles and standards of international law and has serious consequences for regional and global stability and security.
The Minister stressed the need to immediately stop attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran and return the situation to a political and diplomatic solution.”
According to the statement, Lavrov said Russia is ready to help find a peaceful solution based on international law, mutual respect and balance of interests in other fora, including the UN Security Council.
The conflict in West Asia began when the US and Israel jointly launched airstrikes on Iran, aimed at weakening Tehran’s missile capabilities and broader military infrastructure.
Several senior Iranian leadership figures were killed in the initial crackdown of the campaign, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran then responded with widespread drone and missile attacks targeting US bases, regional capitals and allied forces in the Middle East.
