Rapper Balendra Shah’s Rashtriya Swatantra Party is winning in Nepal
In the preliminary results of the recently held elections in Nepal, the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which emerged with the support of the youth, has started taking the lead. These elections, being held for the first time after the mass movement last year, are being considered very important for the politics of the country. According to initial trends, this new youth-inspired political party has performed strongly on many seats, while former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s party is also trying to make a comeback.
In the elections, RSP’s star candidate and famous rapper Balendra Shah is leading on one seat and has won one seat so far. According to initial trends, Nepali Congress is leading in five out of 46 assembly seats.
On the other hand, KP Sharma Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) is leading on three seats, while Nepali Communist Party is leading on one seat. Nearly 60 percent voting was recorded in this election in Nepal, which is the first major democratic exercise after the mass movement last year.
Rashtriya Swatantra Party has claimed victory in Kathmandu-1 constituency. Party’s Central Committee member R.K. According to Dhungana, the party’s candidate Ranju Darshana has won with a huge margin. Dhungana said Ranju Darshana received more than 10,000 votes, almost double that of her nearest rival, Nepali Congress candidate Prabal Thapa Chhetri. However, this result is yet to be officially confirmed by the Election Commission.
Some more results are expected to be out by late Friday (March 6), but it may take several days for the final results for the entire country. Political analysts believe that there is little possibility of any one party getting a clear majority, in such a situation the process of negotiations and alliance between the parties to form the government may take a long time.
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki hailed the peaceful conclusion of the election process. He said that this voting will play an important role in deciding the future of the country.
Let us tell you that after the big mass movement in September 2025, an interim government has been working in Nepal. At least 77 people were killed in that movement and many government buildings including Parliament were set on fire.
The youth-led movement initially began as a protest against a short-term ban on social media, but later grew into widespread discontent against corruption, economic crisis and political instability. Now these elections are being seen as setting a new political direction after the same movement.
