Joint Military Exercise Lamitie 2026 Between India And Seychelles Begins
A joint team of Indian Armed Forces has reached Seychelles, the island country of the Indian Ocean. Here the Indian military contingent is participating in a joint military exercise ‘Lamitiye-2026’ with the Seychelles Defense Forces.
This military exercise is being conducted at the Defense Academy of Seychelles from March 9 to March 20. During the exercise, troops from India and Seychelles will jointly train, plan various military missions and carry out various tactical activities. In this, a variety of combat actions will be taken to neutralize potential threats in semi-urban environments.
Along with this, the use of new generation military equipment and modern technology will also be practiced. The word ‘Lamitiye’ is from the Creole language, which means friendship. The exercise is held every two years and has been conducted regularly in Seychelles since 2001. This year it is the eleventh edition of this important exercise.
The main focus of both sides is to strengthen defense cooperation between India and Seychelles. Also, this exercise is organized with the aim of establishing better coordination between the armies of the two countries. According to defense experts, this time’s exercise holds special significance because all three armies of India are participating in it for the first time. The Indian military contingent that arrived here includes Army, Navy and Air Force personnel. All of them are participating in this exercise together.
According to the Defense Ministry, the Indian Army mainly consists of soldiers from the Assam Regiment. Along with this, Indian Navy’s warship ‘INS Trikand’ and Indian Air Force’s heavy transport aircraft ‘C-130’ are also participating in this exercise. The main objective of this joint military exercise is to strengthen coordination, cooperation and joint action capability between the armies of both the countries. During the exercise, special focus will be given to training related to operations in semi-urban areas.
Apart from this, efforts will also be made to develop better coordination between the two armies during peacekeeping operations. Activities like field training, strategic discussions, study examples, lectures and demonstrations will be organized in this joint military exercise lasting about twelve days. The final phase of the exercise will involve a two-day final joint exercise, which will test all the skills and strategies learned so far.
Experts believe that such joint military exercises play an important role in further strengthening mutual trust, understanding and cooperation between the armies of the two countries. This gives the soldiers an opportunity to share each other’s experiences, skills and military best practices. India and Seychelles have long had close defense relations.
Both the countries have been conducting such joint military exercises from time to time to strengthen maritime security and regional stability in the Indian Ocean region. The ‘Lamitiye-2026’ exercise is also being considered an important step towards further strengthening the military relations between the two countries.
