Putin congratulated new leader Mojtaba Khamenei, reiterated unwavering support to Tehran!

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming his post. This information was given in a statement issued by the Kremlin.

The official statement said Russia has been a “reliable partner” of Iran and will continue to stand with Tehran. This message comes at a time when tensions are at its peak in the Middle East and Iran is moving forward with a new leadership arrangement amid regional conflicts.

In a message posted on the Kremlin’s website, Putin said that in the difficult times Iran is going through, assuming the post of supreme leader demands courage and determination. He expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei will honorably carry on his father’s legacy and keep the Iranian people united in difficult circumstances. Putin also said that Russia will continue its strategic partnership with Tehran and maintain cooperation.

Vladimir Putin, in his congratulatory message, advised Iran to face the attacks with full courage. “Now that Iran is facing armed attack, the position you hold undoubtedly requires great courage and sacrifice from you,” the message said.

Mojtaba Khamenei has recently been elected by Iran’s powerful religious body ‘Assembly of Experts’ as the country’s new supreme leader. He is the son of late Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and has long been considered influential in Iran’s political-religious system. This transition of power under his leadership comes at a time when Iran is facing both regional conflict and international pressure.

Russia and Iran have grown strategically closer over the years. Military, energy and diplomatic cooperation between Moscow and Tehran has increased following the Ukraine war and Western sanctions.
