20% of hotels and restaurants in Mumbai closed due to disruption in LPG supply.
Due to disruption in commercial LPG supply in Mumbai, about 20% of hotels and restaurants have been closed so far. The city’s hotel and restaurant association ‘AHAR’ gave this information on Tuesday (March 10). The association has warned that if the gas supply situation does not improve, 50% of the hotels in the city may be closed in the next two days.
According to AHAR, the number of restaurants currently operating will depend on how much LPG stock is currently available in individual establishments. “If the situation continues like this, almost half of the hotels in Mumbai may be closed in the coming days,” the association said. However, AHAR has informed that the association has not taken any official decision to close the hotels en masse. The decision to keep restaurants open or temporarily close them will depend on individual hotel owners and the availability of gas supply in their establishments.
‘Aahar’ has given this warning as the functioning of the kitchens of restaurants and eateries in the city has been affected. The sudden shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has disrupted operations in many kitchens. Many restaurants rely heavily on commercial LPG cylinders for daily cooking and may be forced to halt services due to supply disruptions.
Industry representatives say many hotels and restaurants have already started reducing their menu items or limiting operations due to uncertainty over gas availability. For the last two days, the effect of shortage of commercial LPG has started becoming visible in restaurants in many cities including Mumbai. Thousands of eateries could be affected if supply problems continue, restaurant organizations have warned.
Let us tell you that due to the ongoing war in West Asia, the global energy markets are under pressure. This has affected fuel supply and increased concerns about the supply chain. Officials said efforts are on to stabilize LPG supply, but industry organizations say restaurants are already facing difficulties in functioning due to the slow delivery process of commercial cylinders. At present, the hospitality sector is keeping an eye on how soon the LPG supply returns to normal, because if the disruption continues, more hotels and restaurants may have to close temporarily in the future.
