Ncert Apologies For Returning Book Containing Text On Corruption In Judiciary

Controversy had arisen due to the inclusion of a chapter titled “Corruption in the Judiciary” in the Class 8 NCERT book. After the matter reached the court, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant took a strong stand on it and reprimanded NCERT. He had said that inclusion of such a chapter in the curriculum is a well-planned and deeply calculated attack on the judiciary. Instructions were also given to take back the book. After this, NCERT has now apologized in this matter.

NCERT has publicly apologized after the Supreme Court banned the book and made strong comments on its chapter titled “Corruption in the Judiciary”. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Tuesday (March 10) issued a statement unreservedly apologizing for the controversy surrounding a chapter in its Class 8 textbook. NCERT also clarified that the entire book has been withdrawn.

NCERT apologized in a post on social media platform X on Tuesday (March 10). “NCERT had recently published a social science textbook titled ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond, Grade 8 (Part II)’, which contained Chapter IV titled ‘Role of the Judiciary in Our Society’. The Director and Members of NCERT unreservedly apologize for this chapter.” The organization further said that the entire book has been withdrawn and is no longer available anywhere.

Early last month, the Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and had strongly reprimanded NCERT. The court had made it clear that any attack on the dignity of the institution would not be accepted. During the hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant had said that the case could lead to a possible new confrontation between the government and the judiciary, and further action would be taken on it.
