Cabinet approved two multitracking projects worth Rs 4474 crore in Bengal-Jharkhand!
In a bid to strengthen railway connectivity in the country, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday approved two multitracking projects worth Rs 4,474 crore in West Bengal and Jharkhand.
These two multitracking projects include Sainthia-Pakur 4th Line and Santragachi-Kharagpur 4th Line, covering 5 districts of West Bengal and Jharkhand, which will add 192 km to the existing network of Indian Railways.
These approved multitracking projects, to be completed by 2030-31, will provide better connectivity to about 5,652 villages, which have a population of about 1.47 crore.
The proposed capacity addition will improve rail connectivity to many major tourist destinations across the country, such as Bolpur-Santiniketan, Nandikeshwari Temple (Shaktipeeth), Tarapith (Shaktipeeth), Patachitra Village, Dhadika Forest, Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary, Rameshwar Kund etc.
The increased rail capacity will lead to increased traffic, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability of Indian Railways. These multi-tracking offerings are set to streamline operations and reduce congestion.
According to the CCEA statement, “These projects are in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a ‘New India’ that will make the people of the region ‘self-reliant’ through comprehensive development and enhance their employment/self-employment opportunities.”
The statement further said, the sanctioned projects are essential routes for transportation of commodities like coal, stone, dolomite, cement, slag, gypsum, iron and steel, food grains, POL, containers etc.
This will help in achieving climate goals and reducing logistics costs of the country.
These projects have been created under the Pradhan Mantri-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, with a focus on enhancing multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder consultation.
