Prime Minister to inaugurate six redeveloped railway stations in Bengal on March 14!
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on 14 March 2026. At around 2 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth approximately Rs 18,680 crore in Kolkata.
In a significant step to boost road infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several National Highway projects with a total length of over 420 kilometers built at a cost of approximately Rs 16,990 crore.
The projects being inaugurated include sections of NH-19 in West Bengal and Jharkhand and NH-114 in West Bengal. These projects are expected to improve road safety, reduce travel time, reduce congestion and pollution, increase regional connectivity, boost tourism and accelerate economic development in the region.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of several new National Highway projects. These include five packages of the 231 km long four-lane Kharagpur-Morgram Economic Corridor of NH-116A. The project is part of the economic corridor between Kharagpur and Siliguri and will pass through West Medinipur, Bankura, Hooghly, East Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal.
Direct connectivity between Kharagpur-Morgram will reduce the travel distance by about 120 kilometers and save about seven to eight hours in travel time. This corridor will also connect to major national highways including NH-16, NH-19, NH-14 and NH-12, thereby strengthening multi-corridor connectivity.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of 5.6 km long four-lane Dubrajpur Bypass on NH-14, which will decongest traffic in densely populated areas of Dubrajpur city and reduce travel time by about an hour. He will also lay the foundation stone for construction of additional four-lane major bridges on NH-14 over Kangshabati and Shilabati rivers.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several shipping and port related projects. He will inaugurate the mechanization project of Berth No. 2 of Haldia Dock Complex, which will enable efficient, faster and environment friendly freight movement.
The project will increase freight capacity, facilitate efficient full-rake rail loading system, improve key performance indicators, enhance safety by reducing human exposure to hazardous tasks and create employment. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the renovation project at Khiddarpur Docks (Dock 1 – West).
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for several port infrastructure projects in the state. These include mechanization of berth number 5 at Haldia Dock Complex of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port.
Other projects include renovation of the bascule bridge in the Kolkata Dock system; Yard development including drainage systems at Kidderpore Dock-I (East) and Dock-II (East); Embankment conservation work on Kolkata river bank from Howrah Bridge pier to Nimtala Ghat; and construction of a river cruise terminal near the Indenture Memorial Complex and terminal building for river tourism facility in the Kolkata Dock System.
In the rail sector, the Prime Minister will flag off the Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi) Express, which will strengthen rail connectivity between West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and the National Capital Region.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate six railway stations renovated under the Amrit Station Scheme. These stations include Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum and Siuri.
The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation two rail projects: the 16 km long third rail line between Belda and Dantan and the Automatic Block Signaling System between Kalaikunda and Kanimohuli. These projects will improve the safety and punctuality of trains, reduce congestion and increase ease of travel for passengers in the region.
These initiatives reflect the government’s continued commitment to strengthen infrastructure, enhance connectivity and drive economic growth in West Bengal and Eastern India.
