Waaree Energies To Build India’s Largest 10 GW Solar Ingot Wafer Plant In Nagpur
Taking a major step forward in India’s clean energy sector, Vaari Energies Limited has announced the setting up of the country’s largest 10 gigawatt (GW) capacity integrated solar ingot and wafer manufacturing unit in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This project is considered important towards strengthening India’s solar energy manufacturing system and reducing import dependence.
The company laid the foundation stone of this project in Butibori Industrial Area of Nagpur. An investment of approximately ₹6,200 crore will be made in this project to be developed on about 300 acres of land. The plant will produce high-purity solar ingots and wafers critical to the solar industry, which are fundamental units of the solar photovoltaic value chain.
Upon completion of the project, it will have a production capacity of 10 GW solar ingot and 10 GW solar wafer, making it India’s largest integrated ingot-wafer manufacturing complex. According to industry experts, the project will strengthen upstream capacity in India’s solar manufacturing sector and make the domestic supply chain more stable.
This project can have a huge economic impact at the regional level as well. It is estimated that once the plant becomes operational, more than 8,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created, thereby boosting industrial growth and skill creation in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were also present at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the project. The Chief Minister said that Nagpur is fast becoming an important center of solar energy manufacturing and this project is a major step towards India’s energy self-reliance.

Hitesh Doshi, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, said India’s clean energy transition journey will be possible not only by increasing renewable energy production but also by developing strong domestic capabilities across the entire value chain of solar manufacturing. He said that this integrated ingot-wafer plant in Nagpur is an important initiative in that direction.

Let us tell you that, solar module manufacturing capacity in India has increased rapidly, but there is still a large dependence on imports for upstream components like ingots and wafers. Experts believe that this new project will reduce the country’s import dependence, strengthen the supply chain and accelerate the goal of ‘self-reliant India’. Amidst the increasing demand for clean energy and the government’s incentive schemes, this project can prove to be an important milestone in making India a global solar manufacturing hub.
