​Assembly election dates announced in five states, results will come on May 4!

The Election Commission of India has announced the dates of the assembly elections for the year 2026. The Election Commission announced the election schedule in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory Puducherry in a press conference on Saturday. The process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has already been completed in these five states and one Union Territory.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that this time the elections will be conducted in different phases. Voting will take place in a single phase in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, while voting will take place in a single phase in Tamil Nadu as well. Voting will be conducted in two phases in West Bengal.

Voting dates: It was told by the Election Commission that Assam, Kerala and Pondicherry have been scheduled for 9 April 2026. Voting dates have been announced for 23 April in Tamil Nadu and 23 – 29 April 2026 in West Bengal. Along with the counting of assembly votes of all the states, their results will be declared on May 4 by the same commission.

How many voters in five states?- According to the Election Commission, a total of 17.4 crore voters in these five states will exercise their franchise. There are about 6.44 crore voters in West Bengal. 2.5 crore voters in Assam. There are 2.70 crore women voters registered in Kerala and about 5 lakh women voters in Puducherry.

2.19 lakh polling stations have been set up for these elections and around 25 lakh election officers will be deployed on duty. Apart from this, 8.5 lakh security personnel will be deployed for security arrangements. About 40 thousand employees have been appointed for the vote counting process.

About 31 thousand polling booths have been made in Assam alone. According to the Election Commission, there will be an average of 750 to 900 voters at each polling station.

What is new in the elections this time?- This time the Election Commission has implemented many new arrangements to make the voting process more transparent and convenient. There will be facility for mobile deposit at polling centres. Colored photographs and names of candidates in large font will be visible on the EVM ballot unit. There will be a maximum of 1200 voters at each polling station.

Candidates will be allowed to set up booths 100 meters outside the polling station. Voters will be given clearer and better information slips. One-stop digital platform will be available for all services. Every polling station will be monitored through 100% webcasting. Voting percentage data will be uploaded on ECINET platform every two hours.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in the press conference that the biggest strength of any democracy is a clean and accurate voter list. For this very purpose, a special thorough revision was conducted under Article 326 of the Constitution, to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the list and no ineligible person is included in it.

He appreciated the booth level officials, Assistant Voter Registration Officers, District Election Officers and other election officials for successfully completing the process.

The Election Commission had visited all the election states in the last few days and reviewed the preparations. During these visits, meetings were held with political parties, police officials and administrative officials.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the Commission also discussed with state election officials, Director General of Police and district administration. Apart from this, talks were also held with the youth who were going to vote for the first time so that the election process could be made more participatory.

Appealing to the youth, he said that voting is the biggest right and responsibility of democracy. Every voter should use his vote with pride and responsibility.

Let us tell you that the total number of voters in the five electoral states is 17.4 crore. The total number of assembly seats in five states is 824 and total polling stations are 2.19 lakh. For this, a total of 25 lakh election officers have been appointed by the Commission.

The Election Commission also said that the detailed data report related to the election will be released within 72 hours of the declaration of results.

These elections are being considered very important from the political point of view because the results of these five states can play an important role in deciding the direction of the future politics of the country. Now the eyes of all political parties are fixed on election campaigning and attracting voters in their favor.
